5 Days, 4 Nights - Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary, Lake Naivasha & Masai Mara
Chimps, Rhinos, Birds & Lions!
Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary is special. Nowhere else in Kenya can you see chimpanzees in their native habitat. This reserve also harbors the largest number of black rhinos in East Africa in specially protected game corridors.
From the central highlands of Kenya, we’ll journey through the Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha for several unusual safaris. We’ll sail across the lake looking for hippos, pelicans, kingfishers and more. Nearby Crescent Island Game Sanctuary gives us an opportunity to stretch our legs on a guided walking safari viewing small game.
SAFARI PLAN
Nairobi – Olpejeta – Sweetwaters :(220 km. 3.5 – Approx. 4 hours)
Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner
7:30 hrs. Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi area hotel, Nairobi airport or Nairobi area residence and we’ll head out in our private safari vehicle for Ol Pejeta Sanctuary.
We’ll be traveling north through the highlands of central Kenya, passing farmland and plantations.
En route, we’ll take a break, stopping at Karatina, the largest open-air market in East Africa.
We should arrive at Ol Pejeta Sanctuary in the afternoon with time for game drives and exploration. We’ll visit the very unique Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary where rescued and orphaned chimps are nursed back to health.
Ol Pejeta also features a protected zone for over 100 black rhinos and there’s also plenty of big cats in this sanctuary. We will use our time well in this special reserve.
OVERNIGHT – We’ll spend the evening at your choice of Ol Pejeta/Mt. Kenya safari lodge or tented camp.
Ol Pejeta – Lake Naivasha & Great Rift valley (230Km – Approx. 4 hrs)
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
There’s so much wildlife in Ol Pejeta – we’ll take an early morning game drive to see who we can spot before departing this lovely preserve.
We’re now headed through the Rift Valley on a scenic drive to Lake Naivasha. Along the way, we’ll stop at 74 m (243 ft) Thompson’s Falls to admire its dramatic cascades.
Continuing, we’ll arrive at Lake Naivasha in time for an afternoon boat safari across the lake. This is an easy, relaxing ride, sailing past hippos and exotic birdlife dotting the lake and its shores.
Nearby, we may spot antelope, zebra, buffalo, eland, and impala perhaps grazing on the shore.
We should also have time for a guided walking safari to nearby Crescent Island Game Sanctuary. It’s a quick walk to this small park where we’ll spot impala, gazelle and other grazers close-by.
OVERNIGHT -We’ll spend the night at the Lake Naivasha safari lodge or tented camp of your choice.
Lake Naivasha – Masai Mara : 240 km (Approx. 5-6 Hrs)
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
After breakfast depart for world-famous Masai Mara Reserve.
Our drive will take us past the dramatic rises and gorges of the Great Rift Valley, passing through Masai country.
The Masai Mara impresses visitors with its vast spaces but also with its amazing displays of wildlife, said to contain the greatest density of lions in the world.
We’ll arrive at the great park with plenty of time for an afternoon game drive. Over its rolling green hills and golden savannahs, we’ll be looking for the big cats, elephant, giraffe, ostrich, warthog, plus buffalo and more.
We’ll spend the first of two nights at the Masai Mara at your safari lodge or tented camp.
Full day – Masai Mara
Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
The Masai Mara is known for having the highest density of wildlife in the region.
So, we’ll be up early to track that wildlife over hills and savannahs, looking for the big predators but also some of the other 90 species of mammals filling this exciting ecosystem.
The reserve is also home to the Great Migration (July – October), when hordes of gazelle, wildebeest and zebra by the tens of thousands cross over the Mara River into the park on their yearly quest for taller, fresher grasses on which to feed.
We’ll take a picnic lunch at the Mara River, within sight of hippos and crocodiles, and if during the migration season, splendid views of the invading herds crossing into the park, in a sight unmatched anywhere.
Here are some optional activities to enhance your stay at the Mara: Enjoy a visit with the local Maasai people in their nearby village, see their homes, learn about their culture, and perhaps purchase some of their colorful jewelry.
We also offer a pre-dawn hot air balloon safari over the park. This is a not-to-be-missed moment on your tour – imagine viewing the Mara come alive with the new day as the wildlife emerges onto the savannah. Your driver/guide can make all the arrangements.
OVERNIGHT – Our final night at the Masai Mara will be at the safari lodge or tented camp of your choice.
Masai Mara – Nairobi: (265km – Approx. 5 hrs)
Meal plan: Breakfast, Lunch.
Our last morning to journey out amongst the wildlife – let’s make the most of it with an early game drive. By now you’re an experienced safari-goer and will better be able to spot the animals.
A final breakfast at our accommodation and we’ll once more hop into our safari vehicle for a final game drive as we exit the park.
Now we’re headed back to Nairobi and should arrive at about 16:30 hrs. (4:30 pm).
From the great elephants at Amboseli to close-up game watching at Lake Naivasha to the splendor of land and wildlife at Masai Mara, this has been a safari adventure to remember. Thank you so much for your patronage and the trust you have placed in us.
DROP-OFF – We should arrive back in Nairobi toward the early evening and will bring you to your hotel, residence, or the airport
